3D Printed Bus Stop - ASL
The project by the collectives Architekti Šebo Lichý and Collarch builds on the academic and research collaboration between Imro Vaško (AŠL) and Shota Tsikoliya (Collarch) at UMPRUM in Prague, where they lead Studio A3. The sculptural form explores the possibilities of 3D printing.
The architectural design of the Lipský bus stop features a 3D-printed concrete shell with a glass canopy. The shell's shape is parametrically generated based on a range of requirements and takes the form of a modified elliptical cylinder: an elliptical footprint with its main axis aligned with the street direction allows for smooth pedestrian flow around the stop.
The cylinder's shell is cut from the northwest side—towards the roadway and partially in the direction of the approaching bus. This opening maximizes visibility of incoming vehicles while protecting waiting passengers from the elements. The cylinder is slightly tilted westward, providing additional shading from the afternoon sun and shelter from prevailing winds. On the southeast side, the shell is perforated with a series of circular openings. This perforation enhances visibility behind the stop, improving both transparency and safety.
